About the ensemble
Johannes, Coco, Toby, Alex and Joe met at the Hanns Eisler School of Music and were sitting around a table one autumn evening in 2022 when they realised they were the right combination of instruments to play Schubert's String Quintet - undoubtedly one of the greatest works of chamber music - and so Ensemble Textura was born.
Their first programme in October 2023 - ‘O Dolorosa Sorte’ - combined the quintet with Renaissance madrigals by Gesualdo, Monteverdi and Palestrina in concerts at Galerie Kremers, Kewenig Warehouse and in a lunch concert at the Philharmonie.
Six months later, they presented ‘Memory Eternal’, which was dedicated to music of Eastern Europe and combined folk, classical and music of the Eastern European church, with works by Prokofiev (Ukraine), Arensky and Schnittke (Russia) as well as Bulgarian traditional songs.
Our latest project - ‘Oh, das schmeckt gut!’ - celebrated composer Johannes Brahms, with two of his most important chamber music works and a brand new arrangement of the ‘Geistliches Lied’ by our cellist Alex. It was also our first programme with two brilliant guest musicians: Miguel Erlich (viola) and Odile Ettelt (clarinet).
We are already developing our next projects, so if you want to stay up to date, follow us on social media or sign up to our newsletter using the form below.
Until next time,
